The marble statue of the Winged Victory of Samothrace (Nike of Samothrace) was discovered in 1863 on the island of Samothrace  by French consul and amateur archaeologist Charles Champoiseau. The statue is now displayed in the Louvre in Paris .

The Nike of Samothrace was found on the island of Samothrace, in the Aegean Sea, Greece, in 1863 by a French expedition. Nike is the goddess who personified triumph and victory in Greek Mythology. She is the daughter of the giant Pallas (warrior) and Styx.
